Videos on YouTube, your favorite podcasts, maybe even blogs are oftentimes sponsored by audible. I know you’ve heard some of your favorite people give you a code to get a free audiobook. You’ve at the very least have seen banner ads advertising the service. I felt like I was bombarded with the advertisements for the last few years. Then I decided, that I was going to try it.
First I searched for the best deal, it turns on Amazon you can try Audible with 2 free books, instead of the normal 1 free book. Click the affiliate link below if you’re already interested.
I actually first tried Audible, because I was trying to get into H.P. Lovecraft, and I was having a hard time getting through the first story. So I downloaded it on Audible, and oh wow, with narration Lovecraft transforms into a whole different art form. It made me feel like I was transported to the age of radio shows. It added so much extra drama, and it was so much creepier. Perfect for Lovecraft.
Then I realized that it was hard for me not to multi-task, so I turned on Lovecraft and also my Playstation 4. That’s when I grinded and farmed in a game of Final Fantasy Type-0. I leveled up very quickly this way. The multi-tasker in me rejoiced, sitting down and reading is extremely hard for me, because I always have approximately 3,000 things on the brain, the same goes for playing simple video games. I love leveling up and crushing enemies, but it’s so time consuming and I could probably be doing better things with my time. I did this great balance of gaming and listening to Lovecraft for a few days until I ran out of audio, and I was hooked on Audible.
I love the features of Audible, you can download on any of your devices, or stream on your PC. You’ll keep your place on all of your devices, and it’s a great way to use your devices offline once you have the books downloaded. They also have this great rewind 5 seconds button, in case your home is full of distractions and you missed that last part.
I tried to listen to Lovecraft on a plane, but oh boy, that is not the kind of narrative you want when you’re thousands of miles in the air. I instantly wished I had something more light hearted and fun, instead of something as heavy as the cosmic horror I’ve come to love.
For $15/month you get 1 free book, use this free book for an expensive option, and if you need additional books, you can definitely find some great ones for a buck or two. Once you download a book on Audible it stays in your library forever, which I think is pretty cool too.
I love it and recommend it to everyone. It’s a different kind of experience, and now I’m itching to listen to some more and maybe level up a bit.
