As of this morning, I’m officially a full-time college student at UW Milwaukee. As of last night I didn’t get any sleep because I somehow mysteriously screwed up my shoulder, I think it’s just because I turned 28 last week and I’m getting old and broken. This morning I’m just sitting here doing some laundry, tidying up around the house, getting some work done on the blog, and waiting for Aliceana to wake up, so I can get her fed, monitor her while she’s in the shower, get her sheets off the bed to get washed, then I have to teach her some 1st grade language arts this morning, and probably listen to Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder on audiobook. I have 4 classes to tackle, but that’s all going to wait until this afternoon.
We homeschool year round, so I thought this was appropriate.
I’ve been going to school at a community college for the last few semesters trying to get my GPA back to something not so terrible. My first try at community college ended with me giving up halfway through my a semester and that didn’t end well for my grade point average. So I did it, I got through online classes very part-time for the last 2 years and ended up with A’s in almost all of my classes. It’s hard to balance going to school, being a stay-at-home mom, and occasionally trying to blog for income in my free-time.
This semester is different, it’s full-time. I’m learning a brand new language. Att lära svenska är inte enkelt. I used Google translate for that sentence, the few weeks of panicked Duolingo in preparation did not teach me that much Svenska. So I came up with a plan. I’m being a mom, a blogger, a person that isn’t yet caffeinated in the morning. Then when the day calms down, everyone has had breakfast and lunch and gotten their morning routine out of the way and I’m ready for a nap, that’s when I get to hit the books and get my school work done. I made a deal with AJ that when he gets home from work, the job of making dinner is all his. I think it’s going to work, I have a somewhat simple semester ahead of me to test the waters. I’m learning about dinosaurs, thunderstorms, classic mythology, and learning first semester Swedish. I think I’ve got this, but I’m pretty nervous anyway.
