Years ago when I was in college and working as a teacher’s aide I brought in holiday cut out cookies for all of the kids in my classes. I remember one of the teachers looking at me like I worked some kind of a miracle for baking, cutting out, and hand frosting all of those cookies. I thought that was weird, holiday cut out cookies aren’t too bad to make, I made them for every occasion throughout the year because I enjoyed the process. I also had a lot more time on my hands and I completed the task on my own and it helped contain the mess.
Now that Aliceana is 3 (and a half) I understand. I completely get it. Cut out cookies are an absolute disaster. It looks like a cloud of flour, frosting, and sprinkles exploded all over our kitchen and dining room. It’s the most wonderful kind of mess, but one that I’ll reserve only for the most special occasions.
So, before we made our Christmas cookies we decided to head to Costco. Here in Wisconsin a few new Costco stores just opened, and one of the new stores happens to be in a location that we drive past each week. Naturally, we bought a membership last week, and just made our second trip yesterday. It’s such a wonderful store, buying items in bulk is ridiculously awesome. I literally can’t stop talking about how awesome Costco is to everyone I talk to, I love the perks of buying in bulk, I’m pretty sure the membership has paid for itself with all the money we’ve saved already.
For this mess I ended up buying Dawn Platinum Advanced Power, for all the extra dishes we’d have to tackle. You know the ones with dried on frosting, those seriously need Dawn Platinum Advanced Power.
We also thought about our floors and bought Swiffer wet refills, which remarkably help pick up those sprinkles and frosting messes.
Swiffer refills from Costco come in a great big box with three individual refill packs inside. Now we won’t be afraid to use the Swiffers as often (you know, the good ol’ rationing of Swiffer wet refills) because we can get so many of the refills at such a great price.
Our cookie mess was quickly under control, and the cookies themselves were delicious. Here’s the recipe.
