I’m the girl that would magically become ill on the day we were supposed to do the mile run in school. I’m the girl that would last about 30 seconds in a horror movie, because I would either run out of breath or trip over my feet the second that I had to run for my life. I’m the girl that’s convinced that I’m going to get through a 5k without dying by my 28th birthday.
This whole idea started somehow when I was home alone for the weekend when AJ and Aliceana were deer hunting, I was in a haze of Real Housewives marathons and junk food and I thought. “I wonder how hard it would be to do one of those color runs.” Then I researched it, I researched it like crazy and learned that a lot of people go from hating running to training for a 5k and it’s not as hard as it looks.
I knew I had to be one of those people.
I’m moving at baby steps toward this goal.
First step: Be able to afford going to a darn gym.
Our local YMCA reduced the joiner fee from almost $100 to $18 for the month of January and it was my chance to get ot only myself signed up, but the whole family. Now I get a discount on Aliceana’s sports programs and we can hit the gym and practice her dribbling skills (and hit the pool when we’re bored out of our minds this Winter.) We also enrolled her in homeschool Phy Ed which will be awesome for her.
So starting this week I’m heading to the gym to…walk quickly on the treadmill. I’ll work my way up to jogging at some point. Once the weather gets better I’ll have the best accountability partner ever, his name is Trio and he’s always up for a good run when he’s not snoozing or chasing squirrels.
