I am having so much fun with all the new old music that is coming out right now! First Blink 182 came out with their new album California which is really amazing, now there are two more old bands that are coming out with some new music.
I heard the new Green Day song “Bang Bang” and was instantly transported right back to the days before before American Idiot. They went right back to their punk roots with this one and it is amazing. I really can’t wait to hear the rest of the new album, Revolution Radio, which drops sometime in October. I love the fact that they are getting right back in the thick of things with this provocative single. Green Day has always been one of those bands not afraid to voice their opinions on anything so I can’t wait to see what other issues they tackle in this new album.
I heard the voice on the radio say “now here is the new single from Metallica” I cringed a little at this and then waited for it to play like someone who knows they are going to get sprayed with a hose waits for the water to hit them. Then the song kicks your ass right back to the 80’s with a huge Ride The Lightning feel and I was instantly in love with it! I was one of those Metallica fans who stopped listening once Garage Inc came out, I really love Ride The Lightning and most of their stuff up to the black album so I am really excited for this blast from the past. Hardwired…To Self-Destruct will be available November 18 and sounds like it will be another musical journey back in time if the rest of the album is anything like the single, “Hardwired”.
This is a very exciting trend for music, it really takes fans of the original music from these bands right back to the roots of where it all started and brings some of us who have strayed, back into the fold. It also shows those new fans what the band was originally all about before they became fans. Now not all things that happened in the past should be brought back (like those huge over sized Jnco jeans…yikes!) but I think it is awesome when bands go retro because there are some things that should never go away.
