Is there anything more satisfying than making your own biscuits or bread? I’m the official biscuit maker in our household, and AJ is the bread maker around here (weirdly we split hamburger bun duty.) It’s just another way we’re trying to be self sufficient, and a little healthier on the homestead. Plus, making biscuits from scratch will always taste better.
This time when making biscuits I had our oldest daughter’s help, and when we sat down to the dinner table she pointed out several times how cool it was that we made them. You guys, the tween was actually excited about something, small miracle, am I right? She also made a million jokes about the fact that when cats are happy they knead or as some people call it, they “make biscuits.” So she kept calling her cat into the kitchen to tell her we were making her specialty.
There is something magical about turning a bowl of ingredients into a flaky buttery biscuit, so I get the excitement.
Pro-tip, double the batch so you can all devour your fill of warm biscuits with dinner and have leftovers for breakfast sandwiches the next day. These are wonderful with my favorite venison stew recipe.
If you don’t have a biscuit cutter, you can use a pint glass. That’s the route I took for years before I decided that grownups should probably own a set of biscuit cutters. If you need a dough blender you can grab one here, available in 14 colors, fancy!

- Repeat until all dough is used.
- Place biscuits onto an ungreased baking sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, 13 to 15 minutes.
