The theme we came up with for our little girls nursery is a combination of Star Wars and owls. Before we were even thinking about trying for a little one we knew we wanted a Star Wars nursery. It started when I stumbled upon some adorable Star Wars prints on Etsy when I was planning our wedding. Once we found out we were having a little girl my husband suggested we register for all of the pink owl things we could find. His Grandmother who passed away last March was in love with everything and anything owls, and it was a great way to honor her. Isn’t it funny that most pregnant couples come up with these themes or maybe base a nursery and items after cartoon characters for their babies, and once their kids are old enough chances are they won’t be interested in that theme or character at all. When I was pregnant I was in the mode where I buy anything that has anything to do with Star Wars or owls..ok who am I kidding? I’m still that way.
I’m generally not a crafty person, but when it came to my wedding I DIY’d almost everything and I did the same when it came to the nursery. Last October when we started trying for our little one we also started to refinish a dresser for her nursery. It was in very rough shape, but it’s gorgeous now. It’s definitely the first thing people comment on when they walk into her room.
I wanted an owl mobile, but couldn’t find one that I wanted enough to spend a ton of money on. So I made one myself, with Styrofoam balls and colored felt.
The teacher in me wanted to make sure books were a focus in the nursery. I wanted a book shelf that had the books facing outward so our little one would be more intrigued, but they were so pricey and the ones I found used awful looking primary colors. So I had my husband stain an old VHS rack and bought some fabric. My Grandma helped by sewing panels and sewing in Velcro for the sling shelves. I love how it turned out! Now we just need to stock up on more books!
These are the Etsy prints that started the whole Star Wars theme. I hand painted the frames to go with the color scheme of her room. You can find the Etsy prints here.
I also hand painted some vinyl records to add a little flare to her room.
I love the way it turned out, Aliceana already seems pretty mesmerized by the Darth Vader print when I’m changing her, then I have to explain to her how bad he is.
Handmade Star Wars pillow.
My dear friend sent me this adorable clock, I just love it. It fits the room perfectly!
I hand painted the shelf and handmade the owl headband holder. The owl bins are from Target, I had to have them!
