We had such a fun family movie night last week when The Boxtrolls came out. You can now stream it on Netflix! #StreamTeam I love that the family is always home on Tuesdays so we can watch movies on the days they’re released, there’s something special about buying and watching a new movie on release day. We had so much fun watching this movie, all cuddled up on the couch, toddler cuddles are seriously the best.
I even made a little craft so we could enjoy some popcorn, because you basically have to buy the movie theatre style for family movie night.
We really enjoyed the movie. It’s a little on the darker side, the red hat exterminators are so incredibly mean, and pretty gross. The Boxtrolls though, they’re adorable. I was telling my husband that I wish this was an animated series, because I could watch the adorable Boxtrolls all day everyday. I guess we’ll have to rewatch the movie a lot.
The Boxtrolls are excellent little builders, and building is a little bit like crafting right? So I’m basically a Boxtroll myself after making these little popcorn boxes.
For Fish, yes, that’s his name. I distressed the edges with a brown colored pencil first, then I drew the fish, added in the details in colored pencil and lightly colored him in. I’m definitely no artist and I was able to make it look pretty decent. Then I added the text.
After I was done with the box labels I glued them onto my little boxes.
I don’t even think Milk was a character, at least not one I noticed. Bummer. I wish I would have known the characters before making these, but I wanted to have the boxes when we enjoyed the movie. Aliceana thought these were really fun either way.
Some characters that would be fun to recreate would be; Shoes, Fragile, Sweets, Sparky, and of course Eggs.
I added some “box-colored” tissue paper to the boxes before adding the popcorn. I think it definitely added to The Boxtroll look.
This movie was super cute, and I’m sure we’ll be watching it again. I love having family movie nights, and popcorn, well that’s just a given on movie night.
