Board games have come so far from Chutes and Ladders and Candy Land. You can find games with deep themes and mechanics, and the innovative kid games, well, they’re fantastic for learning! Whether that means they’re learning how to count, tell the difference between shapes, or hand-eye-coordination.
Games are such a beneficial tool in learning. You can teach your children how to take turns, sharing, patience, and good sportsmanship.
Here are our top 3 preschool games that we’ve played again and again…and again.
Animal Upon Animal
This game is amazing. It consists of wooden animal components that you take turns stacking, so the real trick is dexterity. Every one starts out with one of each animal and the goal is to get rid of all of your animals. At the start of your turn you shake the dice, you might have the chance to place a piece on top of the other pieces, place 2 pieces, give a piece to another player, and other similar plays. If the animals take a tumble, the animals that fell are now added to your pile.

Rhino Hero
This is a fun stacking game as well. In this game you’re stacking a combination of folded and flat cards to make a tower. The flat cards have building instructions and turn order instructions on them. You’re also moving a little rhino around on this tower of cards, it takes incredible dexterity. Not like…Cardhalla dexterity though. You might have to explain the card actions to your preschooler though.
Bendominoes Junior
This is the perfect first game for your child, it’s like regular dominoes, but the pieces are curved and they have cutesy drawings on the pieces instead of pips. Aliceana was playing this game at 2 1/2 years old. See, the explanation is as short and sweet as this game is.
These are a great start to a preschoolers board game collection, and don’t be fooled…we play Rhine Hero and Animal Upon Animal with just adults all the time. They’re that fun, I promise.
