What do you want to be for Halloween?
It’s a question we started asking Aliceana weeks ago. We talked her through a lot of options, and even took her to one of those overpriced Halloween specialty stores, just to make sure she knew what was out there.
She had a few suggestions of her own, a spooky ghost, a knight, or maybe even a firefighter, but we kept circling back to one in particular.
She wanted to be a super hero.
…because she wanted to save people. (and dogs.)
Adorable, right?
Also, because she wants to fly, and we had to let her know that she could only pretend to fly if she dressed as a super hero. So we now run with our arms in super hero flying stance quite a bit.
So we marched right into the Halloween costume section at Walmart (oh-so much more affordable than our other options, and we like affordable for something that will at most be worn a handful of times.*)
My inner-geek rejoiced when she paraded right past the girly options and headed to the stash of MARVEL Avenger costumes, then immediately went into preschool decision making mode to decide which character she wanted to be. Ultimately, the shield won and she wanted to be Captain America. We walked out spending about $25 on a shield AND a full costume, not bad at all!
*Actually, I lied. I said we would only wear this costume a handful of times. She already has grand plans to wear this costume for Halloween AND Christmas, and you know, around the house to play. Those stuffed animals need an Avenger in their lives.
I have to admit, I was a little cautious about how a costume obviously made for boys would work out, but I’m pretty sure she ended up being the cutest Captain America. Of. All. Time. (I’m slightly biased, but I stand by my words.)
Sometimes even heroes enjoy playing on a slide.
